About Us

Changing the Conversation About Death and Dying

Our mission is to become the trusted source of content, conversation, tools and research for understanding end-of-life issues, exploring your choices, and making the necessary decisions.

Our goal is to help you become DeathWise® – wiser about death, wiser about how to prepare for it, and wiser about what to do when a friend or family member dies.

The DeathWise® website is…

Comprehensive

We encourage everyone to learn about, talk about, and make decisions about a wide range of issues related to death—including financial records, healthcare decisions, care of the body, the funeral or memorial service, and emotional support.

Practical

Our Map Tool will guide you through the steps of planning for death, and then generate a Decision Summary Report that can be shared with your family or friends.

Resources include links to download advance directive documents, lists of hospice organizations, state-by-state organ donation requirements, selected articles, selected books, and a glossary of terms.

Concise

The Quick Answer Tool offers short, to-the-point answers for basic questions, along with links to more comprehensive information and resources.

Current

DeathWise Magazine presents a selection of interesting and useful articles, interviews, book reviews, poems, art, video and music.

Our Conversations section includes personal stories from our readers, related quotes, DeathWise Blog, The Last Taboo Blog, and reports from our readers about how DeathWise helped them plan for or handle a death.

Independent

DeathWise, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are not owned by or affiliated with service providers within the industry.
